The Art of Slow Brewing
Pour over coffee is more than a brewing method—it is a mindful ritual that connects you to the coffee's origin and flavor profile. By controlling the water temperature, flow rate, and contact time, you unlock the full potential of specialty-grade beans.
Unlike automatic drip machines, pour over brewing puts you in complete control. Watch the water bloom the grounds, releasing aromatics and carbon dioxide. Feel the weight of the kettle, appreciate the silence, and savor the results—a cup of coffee crafted entirely by your hands.
- Flavor Control: Adjust grind size, water temperature, and pour speed to highlight specific taste notes in your beans.
- Portable & Simple: No electricity required. Take your dripper camping, to the office, or anywhere your coffee journey leads.
- Sustainability: Use reusable filters or compostable paper. Pour over requires minimal equipment and produces zero electronic waste.
Brewing Steps for Excellence
Follow these essential steps to master the pour over technique and extract the best flavors from your beans.
Prepare & Grind
Heat water to 195-205°F (90-96°C). Grind fresh beans to medium-fine consistency, similar to granulated sugar. Use a burr grinder for uniformity.
Rinse Filter
Place filter in your dripper and rinse with hot water. This removes paper dust, preheats the vessel, and ensures a clean extraction without sediment.
Bloom Phase
Pour just enough water to saturate the grounds (about 50ml for 20g of coffee). Wait 30-45 seconds to release CO2 and unlock aromatic compounds.
Pour & Enjoy
Slowly pour the remaining water in circular motions over 2-3 minutes. Let gravity do the work. Total brew time should be 3-4 minutes for optimal extraction.

Common Questions About Pour Over Brewing
Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our products and brewing techniques.
For pour over brewing, aim for a medium-fine grind—somewhere between the consistency of granulated sugar and fine sand. This size strikes a balance between extraction time and flavor clarity. A burr grinder (not a blade grinder) gives you the uniformity needed for consistent results.
Different bean origins and roasts may require slight adjustments. If your coffee tastes sour or underextracted, try a finer grind and longer brew time. If it tastes bitter or overextracted, use a coarser grind and reduce the brew time.
The ideal water temperature for pour over is between 195°F and 205°F (90°C to 96°C). This range extracts flavor compounds optimally without scorching the grounds.
If you don't have a thermometer, boil water and let it cool for about 30 seconds before pouring. For lighter roasts, use water closer to 205°F to enhance brightness. For darker roasts, drop to 195°F to avoid over-extraction and excessive bitterness.
Many of our customers use gooseneck kettles with built-in thermometers for precision. Check our shop to see our selection of brewing kettles.
Each material has unique advantages. Ceramic drippers retain heat well, are beautiful to display, and create a classic brewing experience. They are slightly more fragile but offer excellent flavor consistency.
Glass drippers let you watch the entire brewing process unfold. Borosilicate glass is heat-resistant and durable. They cool faster than ceramic but are ideal if you enjoy the visual element of pouring.
Stainless steel drippers are ultra-durable and portable—perfect for travel, camping, or outdoor brewing. They are least likely to break and require minimal care. Choose based on your lifestyle and brewing environment.
Both options are valid and offer different results. Paper filters produce a cleaner cup with more clarity in flavor notes. They remove most oils and fine particles, ideal if you prefer a lighter mouthfeel.
Metal filters (mesh or fine stainless steel) allow more coffee oils to pass through, resulting in a fuller, heavier body. Your coffee will taste richer and more robust but with slightly less clarity. Many coffee enthusiasts own both and switch based on their mood.
Consider the environment: paper filters are disposable (though compostable), while metal filters are reusable and reduce waste over time.
